| Leslie Davenport, MFT | 7.5 hrs/7.5 CEUs | ||||
Guided imagery plays an important role in medical and health-related conditions. Evidence-based research demonstrates that images in our minds have a direct impact on our body. Examples include the ability to use imagery to lower cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood, lower blood pressure, reduce complications related to surgery, and heighten short-term immune cell activity. An interactive-style of imagery facilitation will be taught and practiced, along with applications for a variety of clinical applications. The course will be 1/2 lecture and 1/2 experiential. ********************************************************************* About the Instructor: Leslie Davenport, MFT is a pioneer in bringing guided imagery to integrative medicine and psychotherapy. Developing an understanding of how the body functions has a powerful effect on how you view health and disease. This class offers practical knowledge to aid you in understanding how disease happens and even how it can be prevented. And although this will be mainly a western physiology class, we will integrate some eastern principles to fully understand the body's complexity. A discussion of real life case studies concerning pathology makes the material come alive. Understanding these disease mechanisms will bring confidence as you know more about your clients' western diagnoses and how you may help them in your practice. Recommended text: ""Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology" by Elaine N. Marieb (8th, 9th or 10th Edition) and/or "Pathology for the Health Professions" by Ivan Damjanov. About the Instructor: Graham has been studying Chinese medicine and Asian bodywork since 2000 and received his Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences (ACCHS) in Oakland. He holds a Bachelors degree in psychology from Colby College and has studied Tui Na massage with Brian O’Dea. Graham teaches Tui Na at the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College (AIMC) in Berkeley and in the massage program at ACCHS in Oakland. His approach to teaching anatomy is based on developing solid palpatory skills so students can ground themselves through knowledge of body mechanics and physiology. He also enjoys offering Chinese medicine for dogs, cats and horses as he finds animals are so receptive to this work. Graham maintains a private practice near Summit Hospital in Oakland where he offers Acupuncture, Tui Na, and Herbology.
