| Obstetrics and Pregnancy Disorders |
| ||||
| Raven Lang, LAc and Dawn Motyka, MD | 32 pending hours/CEUs | ||||
TCM practitioners encounter issues of women's health and it is essential to have a thorough understanding of these health states in order to feel adequately prepared to treat patients safely and effectively. It's equally important that the practitioner understands not only how to recognize abnormal conditions in reproductive health, but also how to recognize what is normal and needs to be left alone. By doing this, it is possible to guide a woman into the profound state of reproduction that embraces her spirit and strength and produces a healthy mother and a healthy child. Case histories and stories related to each subject will be presented. This seminar combines the physiology, psychology, science, and spirituality of the birth experience and will demystify the reproductive state. By the end of this 4-day course, the practitioners will have a deeper understanding of childbearing, and will have the knowledge necessary to deal with problems that can arise during that time. Raven Lang is one of the most prominent TCM Obstetrician in the US today. She has a background in midwifery and later became licensed in TCM. Now, she attends births as an acupuncturist or doula. She attends births of children she saw born, just being with them and bringing all that she has - her needles, her knowledge, her feminism, her humanity. Dr. Dawn Motyka is the host and producer of the radio show “Ask Doctor Dawn” and practices at the Scotts Valley Medical Clinic. | |||||

| ||||
| Agnes Deglon, Shiatsu Instructor | 16 hours/CEUs | ||||
| SHIATSU September 11-12, 2010 1. Introduction to Shiatsu and Do-In Shiatsu is a form of traditional Japanese body work which equilibrates the Qi in the human body by applying pressure on the meridians using thumbs, palms of the hands, elbows and knees. Natural body weight is used when pressure is applied on special points on the body. Shiatsu literally means finger pressure. Clients are fully dressed (please bring comfortable loose clothes) for the session. Shiatsu is practiced on a futon on the floor, therefore, practitioners need to be in good health and especially have healthy knees. Do-in is a combination of meridian stretching exercises, breathing exercises, Qi exercises and self massage. Practicing Do-In is a great way to become aware of your own energy, improve your flexibility and a useful way of self treatment. Meditation is an important practice for shiatsu practitioners. The practitioner needs to be centered in his/her own space before being able to help and guide the client to rebalance his energy. This first weekend we will be working on our own energy, balance, flexibility, movements. There will be exercises to practice - smoothly moving around the client, - control of our own balance, - progressive, adapted pressure using our body weight - touching skills We will be working on a general outline covering the whole body allowing the student to give a full general relaxation session after this weekend.
