In April 2005, Five Branches University received approval from the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) to offer a doctoral degree program pursuant to the Commission’s substantive change application process. This approval implies that the doctoral program is to be reviewed for candidacy by the ACAOM pursuant to the Commission’s procedures.

The California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) has approved Five Branches University to offer the degree of Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM).
