Massage and Asian Bodywork & Qigong Program and Classes

Five Branches University offers a variety of classes and certificate programs in therapeutic massage, Asian Bodywork, Qigong and Medical Qigong; bringing together wisdom from modalities based in Eastern and Western traditions. Courses may be taken individually, for massage therapists, qigong teachers and other healing practitioners wanting to add to their skills, or who require more class hours to rectify with the CAMTC. And courses may be taken in a series of classes that lead to certification in Asian Bodywork and Qigong.

500-Hour Asian Bodywork and Qigong Program

The 500-hour Asian Bodywork and Qigong Certificate Program, offered at both our San Jose and Santa Cruz campuses, will provide the preparation necessary to take the MBLEx exam.

The program was approved by CAMTC from November 2016 to November 2018 qualifying graduates to apply with the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) to become a state-Certified Massage Therapist (CMT). Five Branches University is presently in the process of re-approval and until the process is concluded, is not offering the Asian Bodywork and Qigong program. The program is forecast to be offered again in 2019.

Coursework offered at both campuses includes:

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Acupressure and Tui Na
  • Swedish Massage
  • Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Kinesiology
  • Professional Ethics and Business Management
  • Supervised Clinical Practice

Prerequisite for this program is high school diploma, GED or equivalent

Depending on student interest and faculty availability, massage and bodywork courses are offered in the following specialties:

  • Thai Massage
  • Shiatsu
  • Qi Gong
  • Sports Massage
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Chair Massage
  • Deep Tissue

Tuition is $5000 for the 500-hour program.

Tuition does not include the cost of books or other materials needed.


The program is offered part-time, with varying schedules depending on student preferences. The entire 500-hour program can be completed in one, two or three trimesters which translates to 4, 8 or 12 months. The program will be offered when the CAMTC re-approval process is concluded.
