Clock #1 — the program itself. This is the part school catalogs are specific about (published by Five Branches; last checked 07/2026):

Clock #2 — after your last class. Before you can sit the CALE, all coursework and clinic hours need to be signed off, your accounts (tuition, library, clinic) need to be clear, and you complete an exit interview with the financial aid office — then you notify the school of your exam intent about a month ahead of the application deadline. How long that adds in practice (scheduling, results, license issuance) is the one piece that varies by exam cycle, so it's worth checking the California Acupuncture Board's own current schedule rather than a number from us.
One thing worth knowing if the exam itself worries you: the CALE is offered in Mandarin, Korean, and English, not English-only — so studying in Chinese doesn't box you out of licensing here. And Five Branches' own CALE first-time pass rate runs 85.8% cumulative over 2021–2025, across 169 test-takers — a large enough sample to actually mean something, not a lucky semester.
