What does it take to get licensed as an acupuncturist in California?
If money and prerequisites feel like the maze here, that's fair — California's licensure route runs through the California Acupuncture Board, and it's worth laying out plainly, step by step.

One detail worth knowing if Chinese is your stronger language: the CALE is offered in Mandarin, Korean, and English — as of our last check (08/2026) there's no sign that's changing. That's different from NCBAHM, which dropped foreign-language testing back in 2024 and is English-only now. So you can train and test entirely in Chinese and still get licensed in California — it's other states, via NCBAHM, where that option disappears.
On the school side, most accredited CA programs (Five Branches included) build toward this directly — clinical training runs about a third of the curriculum, with a supervised patient-treatment requirement (Five Branches' own minimum is 400 supervised treatments) plus a dedicated CALE-prep review course before graduation.
